So I had written this out completely, had clicked publish.. and something happened, but not what was ment to.. the whole post just vanished off the face of the earth! So here we go again.. this one has been saved as a draft as well and hopefully that will stop the evil monster trying to eat my posts.. Worst case ill just hire a rage wombat security guard for it..
So I have begun producing some more of the turtles… this time with sculpey rather than air dry clay, this is alot easier to work with alot less messier and the finnish is alot smoother and it holds the details superbly.. as most people know of polymer clays! This little fellow hasn’t got a name yet though he does have a little story, he is the captain of a company of turtles which reside inside a labratory, they watch and learn what thier human counterparts are doing and make thier own weapons and armor as well as brew concotions to help them fight off the invading penguin armies.. as well as just be sure that humans are kept safe and have no knowledge of the war that is going on under thier feet.. Though how they hide the giant sea turtle battle tanks I have no idea.. Must be pretty high tech! There are also smaller tribes who are a tad more primitive and tend to have lesser weapons though they are well educated in stealthy and tactical battles..
Anyhoo back to this guy. I am happy with everything you can see here other than his feet.. As this will be painted when it is done I have not felt the need to add extra details to the eyes and too much to the skin and face.. mostly only where there would be dents that are easier to show through the sculpted piece than to paint on.. he will have a goop weapon along the similar lines of the last however this one will be attached to the spoon as I have illustrated in a earlier image.. I can’t wait to see scores of these fellows come to life.. If you can think of a suitable name for him be sure to let me know!
Less exciting news… I go to the gym, I don’t do alot there but the 30 min walk and 20 min swim is alot more than I would do without it.. and as my tail is still warming up to doing physical stuff *almost a year since the surgery!* it is ALOT better than it was and the days I don’t do the excercise it hurts a little.. but way better than it was for 2 years 😀 I can actually run across roads without pain 🙂 and jump up and down.. so the point of this rant is that I was swimming and on the 4th or so lap I realised that I am a very visual person.. My accomplishments are more set in stone when I can SEE what I am doing and what I have done.. which is why this blog and my flickr account are so important to me.. I have drawn up a grid of 1 inche squares and numbered them with the date and the first of each month I have written the month..
As I started this yesterday I have one square filled in but it seems like a great way to keep track of this.. you could adapt this idea for almost anything and at the end you have a page filled with various squares.. you could even take a simple pixelated picture and do this so when you have done something everyone of those squares you have a pretty picture 🙂
As for course work, I realise I haven’t posted much of what I have been doing. Most because there is alot of experimentation and research and at the end of the day I get a bit tired of documenting it all.. But here is my final painting for the painting unit.. this is just the base for certain parts which I have crumbpled some cartridge paper (a3) and added some book pages and textured an area (done with an old comb) the MDF was painted with common grey house hold undercoat and then everything was glued with pva and various layers of gesso have been laid down.. which I will be sanding and relayering on the smoothest area once I am done here.. The crumpled paper and part of the smooth area will be painted with a sponge with a wet in wet technique using some gel retarder as it makes the acrylics blend like oils to get a nice coloring and texture 🙂 I will do my best to take some progress shots so that you can see the image build up 🙂
More on the postcards.. The book is getting VERY fat and hard to write in..
The MIA #36 card, taken with the red eye setting, if you know a good way to get the details of black pieces please do tell me!
#46 – reading playing cards..
And thats all.. if your reading this the evil blog monster has not come back to eat this post.. And can you believe how simple it is to write 893 words?
