So lately I have had some things on my mind, one of which has sparked a new project for me, I wanted to participate in SharonB’s TAST challenge, I have been looking at her site for years and 29 or so weeks ago when this challenge started I had no time to actually take part. That then turned into not knowing how to make use of the participation and creation of stitches. All which hit me this afternoon after an insanely tired walk to get a spinach and cheese pie and banana bread slice for lunch from the local bakery (it was well worth it!) I picked up 2 new VD and a pad of 2 color pages, some gold ink and in the mail was a batch of fabrics I had ordered, I also picked up some damaged fabric from the local op shop, the lady was so nice that she wasn’t going to charge me so I convinced her to take at least the 50’c (she refused to take the whole 2.50, then refused the $2, after explaining it was useful to me she said she would only take the 50c!) The fabric I was actually drawn to after all the mola, reverse applique and viewing of Jude’s website!
So I got home, watched a bad show about some volcano, which after finnishing my scrumptious meal I went to nap, though there wasn’t a great deal of napping to be done I started to jot down the notes which had been forming in my mind. I tend to make small notes and then the rest mulls over in my mind until I end up at some conclusion about what I am going to do with what, this project I have set myself into is partly spawned by what I am learning in my course, from others blogs and from my own interest to actually do something with my ideas.
Now, anyone else is welcome to take this idea and begin thier own, I would love to see what anyone else comes up with..
My project is this, I have a 120 page VD, a bunch of scrap fabrics which are piling up and a need to create. I have wanted to take part in TAST and also to participating in Illustration Friday this project combines both those and my recent interest in creating fabric/fibre books. I haven’t found alot of information about creating fabric books or illustrations online. I guess part of it is applique and the rest is book binding, so the point of my project is to explore these areas for myself and to put the pieces up for others to take a peek at if interested as well as building some illustration skills and a stitch library not just of the stitches but them being used for a practical or decorative purpose.
I have uploaded and created a new set in my flickr portal for those of you who are interested in keeping up to date and once I start making the pieces I will create another set in the same collection for viewing (it will be inprogess and complete pictures depending on how it goes). As I am starting this TAST challenge late I will be finnishing it in 52 weeks from this one. My first illustration will be discovery as I love the topic, my goal is to do this weekly taking it one week at a time. Alot of this is currently up in the air as to the construction of the book but I am sure it will come together nicely!
Till next time!
Edit- As for book binding, here are some links you may find useful.. More to come at some point..
